Monsoon jackets under ₹4,000
Waterproof ratings mean little without taped seams. We stood eight jackets under a shower head for twenty minutes each.

A waterproof rating describes the fabric, not the jacket. Water enters through seams and zips long before it soaks through a membrane.
The shower test
Twenty minutes under a fixed shower head, with a dry cotton layer underneath to show exactly where water got in. Seven of eight jackets let water through at the shoulder seam within twelve minutes.
Breathability is the real trade
A jacket that keeps rain out also keeps sweat in. In monsoon humidity that means you end up damp regardless, from the inside. Pit zips are the only meaningful fix and almost nothing under ₹4,000 has them.
