Mixers that survive daily dal
A mixer grinder used twice a day fails differently to one used twice a week. Six months of Indian kitchen duty, logged.

We test independently and earn a commission from some links on this page. How this works
Mixer grinders fail at the coupler, the small toothed part that transmits motor rotation to the jar. On most machines it is nylon, chosen deliberately so it shears before the motor burns out.
Six months of real use
Twice daily, wet and dry, including the kind of thick batter that stalls a motor. We logged every stall and every time the unit was left to cool.
The coupler question
A metal coupler removes the sacrificial part, which means a serious stall now threatens the motor instead. That trade is worth taking only on a machine whose motor can survive it. This one recovers from a stall without the smell that precedes a burnt winding.
What nobody warns you about
Jar lids. The seal that makes a jar leak-proof when new becomes hard to open after a few months of hot use, and that is an everyday irritation no specification sheet lists.
